Stevens was amoung those indicted for stealing a front end loader in 1991. The 64 year old resident of Grosse Ile was apart of a crew that took orders from Vito Giacalone through Frank Bommarito. The crew which consisted of core members Carlo Bommarito, John Pree and Donald Robb participated in a string of robberies, bombings and extortion attempts before authorities caught up with them on charges of bombing a local trash disposal company that was competition for an outfit controlled waste disposal company owned by Anthony Soave. Stevens escaped conviction on the theft charges when crew member John Pree "who had originally reached an agreement for his testimony against his former cohorts," changed his mind causing the prosecutions case to collapse.
