This is the last Will and
Testament of me Stephen Barker
of Maidstone, Kent, tailor. I give my wife Sarah
Ann Barker all my household furniture, books, plate, linen,
china and consumable provisions (other than my stock in trade)
and I give her the sum of fifteen pounds to be paid to her as
soon as may be after my death. I give and bequeath to my Executors
hereinafter named the goodwill of my business and trade of a
tailor and draper and also all my stock in trade shop fittings
and book debts upon trust to receive and get in such book debts
and thereout to pay all my just debts funeral and testamentary
expenses and legacies and also to carry on my said business and
continue the same to and for use and benefit of my son Herbert
Barker until he shall attain the age of twenty one years
and I empower my said trustees and Executors to permit my said
son to reside in my property house of business at a rent of twenty
pounds a year and the usual tenants rates and taxes during the
life of my said wife and upon my said son Herbert attaining
his age of twenty one years then I direct that such goodwill
business and effects and the then surplus of such book debts
shall rest in and be the property of my said son absolutely.
But in case my said son shall die before attaining his age of
twenty one yers then direct my said Executors to sell or dispose
of such business and effects as aforesaid as their or his discretion
and invest the proceeds thereof as they may think fit and apply
the dividends or interest thereof in the same manner as I have
herein after provided with respect to my real estate I bequeath
the sum of two hundred pounds now standing in my name in the
funds and all other my monies or securities for money not hereuntofore
by me disposed of to my said Executors upon trust at their or
his discretiont to get in the same and pay and apply the dividends
interest and proceeds thereof to my said wife during her life
or widow and after her decease or remariage whichever shall first
happen upon trust thereout to set apart and invest two hundred
pounds ?????????? for my daughter Fanny Cordelia Barker
absolutely. I devise all my real estate unto and to the use of
William Henry Gibbons and Frederick Gibbons their
heirs and assigns upon trust to receive the rents and profits
thereof and after payment thereout of all taxes rates expenses
of repairs insurance and other outgoings to pay and apply the
not interest thero unto my said wife for her life or until she
shall marry again the thereout maintaining and educating my sons
children except the said Herbert Barker during their minorities
and from and after her decease or her remarriage which ever shall
first happen. I give and devise the same as follows to my said
son Herbert Stephen Barker the house and premises in which
I now reside. To my daughter Josephine
Julia Barker my house and premises adjoining occupied by

T Durrell. To my daughter Emily Laura Caphalla Barker
my house and premises number ? Queen Ann Road and my house and
premises number ? Peel Street. To my son Harry Barker
my house and premises number ? Queen Ann Road and my house and
premises number ? Peel Street. To my daughter Helen Norah
Barker my house and premises number ? Peel Street and to
my daughter Clara Selina Barker my house and premises
number ? Queen Ann Road and my house and premises number ? Peel
Street all in the Parish of Maidstone. But in case any of my
said children shall die before attaining their respective ages
of twenty one years then I devise the property so bequeathed
to them as aforesaid unto and equally between all my said children
then surviving and the issue of those deceased said children
taking ??????????????? and I appoint my friends the said William
Henry Gibbons and Frederick Gibbons Executors and
trustees of this my will and bequeath to each of them the sum
of ten pounds and I appoint my said wife guardian of my infant
children and in the event of her decease before they shall have
attained their majorities I appoint my said son Herbert Stephen
Barker to be such guardian. I revoke all former wills for
writing whereof I the said testator have thereunto set my hand
this Fourth day of June One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy,
Stephen Barker, signed by the said testator as and for
his last will in the presence of us present at the same time
who at his request in his presence and in the presence of both
other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses, Edward

Probate 22nd
December 1870. The Will of Stephen Barker late of Maidstone
in the County of Kent, Tailor deceased who died 12th June 1870
at Maidstone aforesaid was proved at the Principal Registry by
the oaths of William Henry Gibbons of Medway Terrace in
the Parish of Maidstone aforesaid Solicitor's Clerk and Frederick
Gibbons of Medway Terrace aforesaid Commercial Clerk, the
