It was from here in 1831 that my 3 times great uncle James Edward Abnett was taken to start his journey to "Botany Bay". From the Maidstone Journal and Kentish Advertiser for July 15 1831, there was a report for the West Kent Quarter Sessions. "James Abnett was convicted of stealing three live tame rabbits, value 12s. The property of William Abnett his brother, at Maidstone." Sentence:- Transported for seven years. (Australia) |
