Twelve Tribes of Israel Rastas
The largest organized movement of Rastas in the world is the Twelve Tribes of Israel (TTOI). The Twelve Tribes "house" (or "mansion") was founded in 1968 by Dr. Vernon Carrington, a.k.a. the Prophet Gad. The most famous member of the TTOI is Bob Marley. The Twelve Tribes have headquarters all over the world, including New York, Los Angeles, New Zealand, Sweden, Canada, Africa, Trinidad, etc. TTOI are the largest Rasta presence in the Shashamane settlement in Ethiopia. The TTOI are closely tied to the Royal family of Ethiopia in exile, and are working to restore Haile Selassie's successor to the imperial throne. The Prophet Gad instructs Twelve Tribes Rastas to read the bible cover to cover, one chapter a day.
