education/formation: He would have the "First Letters" ["Primeiras Letras"].

profession/activities: Probably he was a small businessman.

religion/brotherhoods: Certainly he was roman apostolic catholic.

diverse: His name is included in one single document, the wedding record of his son Pedro José do Espírito Santo Chelles, in the form "José Francisco do Espírito Santo Chelles". Nevertheless, at least since the year of 1810, one find records of "Francisco José do Espírito Santo", in Saint Benedict of the Anteater Town [Vila de São Bento do Tamanduá], MG, Brazil, paying the tithe over his dwelling, at Flowers Street [Rua das Flores], # 48, whose mensal rent was evaluated in $300 r.s, of which, discounting 10%, gave the annual rent of 3$240 r.s, and a tax to pay of $324 r.s. We continue to find recods in the following years, of 1811 until 1816. Later, we find the last, in 1831, the single one where he appears with the surname "Xelis". In the Village of Saint Vincent Ferrer of the Ant [Arraial de São Vicente Ferrer da Formiga], MG, Brazil, nowadays city of Formiga, MG, Brazil, whose territory belonged to Saint Benedict of the Anteater Town [Vila de São Bento do Tamanduá], MG, Brazil, there were many people with the surname "do Espírito Santo" (without the "Xelis"), so as: João do Espírito Santo, Joaquim do Espírito Santo, and Manoel Francisco do Espírito Santo. They could be his brothers, but there are no available documents over this matter. Remais the question to know if "José Francisco do Espírito Santo Chelles" was the same "Francisco José do Espírito Santo Chelles", or a son of this one. The origin of the surname "Chelles" is still unknown and doesn´t seem to be portuguese. Chelles is a small village of France, near to Paris, in the Departament of Seine-et-Marne (look at the Internet address: http://www.ville-chelles.fr/). The surname "Chelles" seems to be a toponymic, but there is no prove that it is so, because it might have been assumed, arbitrarily, without consideration of the true origin.

residence: He resided in the Saint Benedict of the Anteater Town [Vila de São Bento do Tamanduá] (nowadays, Itapecerica), MG, Brazil.

children: (3 or +): Pedro José do Espírito Santo Chelles, Vigilato José Chelles, and [Francisca?] Chelles.
