Now I Know My ABC's
When we sing the traditional alphabet song we end it:
"Now
I never will forget
how to say the alphabet."
I try to teach as many letters as possible in the first trimester. We learn the letter names, sounds, and a key word for each letter. Learning to write the letters correctly is the biggest challenge. Then we do a special "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" unit to celebrate the letters and how proud we are to be learning them.
Parents, I highly recommend that you buy your child the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom book. There is also a great computer learning game with the same name that helps children learn the letters. I also suggest that you buy magnetic letters to use at home to use for sorting and making words. Look for both capital and lower case letters.
When
learning letters we
- hunt for them around the room
- look for them in the books and chartss we read
- match capitals and lower case letterss with magnetic letters and in games
- practice writing them correctly
-read many alphabet books
- count and graph how many letters are in our names
- do alphabet puzzles
- put letters in ABC order
and much more!
