![]() ![]() I like to start the month of December with a unit on the story of the gingerbread man. It is a good non-holiday story that blends easily into Christmas festivities. Every year I seem to have a student who requests that we sing the song about "gingerman", so I have come to think of this fondly as the gingerman unit.
We use interactive writing to
write letters to the gingerbread man and the fox.
At the end of the unit I bake giant gingerbread cookies and little ones for each child. When it is time to eat them they have run away ( with a little help from another adult.) We chase them around the school and when we return there is a treat waiting for us. Each child gets a small bag decorated with gingerbread men with cookies and candy kisses in it. I was lucky enough to find darling placemats and I have laminated them so they will last me until retirement!
