Caiaphas

Caiaphas was the head priest at the time the story of Jesus took place. Later theories believe that he was involved in briberies and other illegal activities to keep his power as long as possible. JCS presents him as the evil man he probably was, who out of fear for Jesus, convinces his council that Jesus must die, when they discuss what a threat he is. In this movie version, Caiaphas is played by Fredrick B. Owens, as a large, pretty scary, black man, while the other priests are white. This is maybe, in addition to Caiaphas' characteristical dark voice, to make his position as a leader clearer.

Caiaphas and his evil council watches Jesus                                                                                 "I really didn't come here of my own accord!"

and the crowd out in the street.

With Annas' help, Caiaphas convinces Judas that
betraying Jesus is the right thing to do:
"You know his movements, we know the law."
