Comparisons
Model To Real Aircraft
Even in such a small scale as 1:500 the detail of a new generation model allows a greater amount of realism. A good comparison can be seen in the limited edition Continental Airlines 'Peter Max' Boeing 777-200. Just look at the picture below and compare!
Old Generation To New Generation
The old generation models run from the first examples in the early 90's, up to todays production, now being joined from 2001 by the new generation.
Early examples such as my Royal Brunei 767-300 show original printing, landing gear, engine, and tail assembly.
Compare below the landing gear of two Boeing 747's, the detail of the new generation with the inclusion of wheel bay doors, and scaled gear. It realy does make such a difference to the whole look of the model.
I have read various articles on collectors who have changed the gear on the 'classic wings' to scaled gear. I personaly think that can only de-value them, I value my 'classic wings' in their original form and deservedly form part of all good collections. They are part of the Herpa history!
(The only downside to this, is the NG gear are far more fragile; having had a few models arrive with broken gear needing replacement!)
In the next picture the improvements to the main fuselage can be seen, also there is additional detail to the new generation wings.
