  • To Separate Items
  • The semicolon is used to separate a series of items that already contains commas.
    • I had to pack jeans, shorts, and t-shirts; sandals, clogs, and heels; and books, CD's, and cards.
  • With Conjunctive Adverbs
  • Semicolons are used with conjunctive adverbs.
    • I didn't eat my packed lunch; instead I ate cafeteria food.
    • Don't talk. Nobody cares what you think.
