Psi Chapter History
The history of Kappa Delta Chi-Psi began in the fall of 1999 with a young woman who felt the need to bring a strong sisterhood into her life. After three years of studying biology at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, TX. Michele McClellan knew that what she was missing was not on campus. After gaining much information from her best friend who was a member of the Pi Chapter at UT, Michele discovered Kappa Delta Chi was the sorority that stood out from the rest of the sororities. It was their commitment to uphold the principles of Unity, Honesy, Integrity and Leadership.

At first Michele approached Cyndi Rodriguez and Claudia Guzman, fellow biology students and explained to them her need of a strong sisterhood on campus. At the beginning of the fall semester Michele, Cyndi and Claudia began to search for other women who had the same desire for making a difference in their community and in their lives. They approached close friends and informed them of their plans to bring forth a great organization to the university. They had to overcome many obstacles soon after their charter class was formed. Michele McClellan, Claudia Guzman, Cyndi Rodriguez, Vanessa Valenzuela and Marisol de los Santos began to hold informal meetings to discuss how they would charter a new chapter of Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc.

Michele contacted Milly Garzon, the National External Vice President and she sent the necessary information regarding the charter process. They then signed a letter of intent and submitted it professing their commitment and dedication to the ideals in which Kappa Delta Chi is based.  After much hard work the women were officially recognized as an interest group in the spring of 2000.

After many weeks of regular meetings, long study hours and many service projects the Kappa Delta Chi National Executive Board officially recognized the interest group at St. Mary's University as a Colony. The excecutive board of Psi Colony was formed from the Charter Class as follows:

                                President                                      Michele McClellan
                                Historian/Chaplain

                                Vice President /                            Cyndi Rodriguez
                                Treasurer

                                Standards/                                     Vanessa Valenzuela
                                Sergeant at Arms

                                Corresponding &                           Claudia Guzman
                                Responding Secretary

New Member Educator                  Marisol de los Santos

The women worked diligently and vigorously to complete their service, study and fundraising requirements while still studying the foundation of the sorority. Although it wouldn't be until the end of the spring semester, one week before many of them would graduate that they would reap the rewards of their hard work. It was on the weekend of May 5th that the charter class of the Psi Colony met in San Antonio with the National External Vice President and their big sis chapter, Pi, to learn more about the sisterhood and what lied ahead on their path. On Sunday, May 7, 2000 the Psi Chapter of Kappa Delta Chi was inducted by the National President Naomi Chapa, the National External Vice President Milly Garzon and the National Recording Secretary Ruby R. Alvarado ad the Pi Chapter in San Antonio. Best New Member was awarded to Michele McClellan, and the Most Service Hours was awarded to Marisol de los Santos.

Psi Chapter continuesto work hard and make the preparations necessary to expand the sisterhood on campus and proudly inducts a group of chosen women every semester during recruitment week and the new member
process.
