Quickstart
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you just need to print the reference card, use any PostScript or PDF
software (such as Adobe Acrobat) to view and print the selected file
(see above.) Before printing double-sided pages, make sure you check
how the pages are supposed to go into the printer. Beware of duplex
printers messing up the orientation of reverse-side pages.

This is an adaptation of the material in Eric S. Raymond's Guidebook for
NetHack; it is not an original work. Hence, please understand and follow
the terms of the NetHack General Public License. The license file is
included in this distribution.

Rolling Your Own
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you want to modify the reference card, you will need the following
free software:
(1) Basser Lout 3.28 (typesetter, makes the PostScript files)
(2) AFPL Ghostscript 7.0.4 (conversion to PDF)
(3) Ghostgum's Ghostview 4.3 (optional viewer)
(4) PSUtils patchlevel 17 (for booklet creation)

A Make utility is helpful, especially when you are tweaking the Lout
sources. Also, the commands used to convert the original PostScript
file to a booklet PostScript file is provided in the Makefile. I make
the PDFs manually using Ghostview as the GUI interface, but you can
automate the whole process by adding the appropriate Ghostscript
command line in the Makefile.

The Lout sources should be quite easy to understand. I make tried to
tag each element of the reference card nicely, so changes should not
be too difficult to make. Just a few added commands will enable you
to add colour to the card, for example.

Older Files
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

This reference card was originally done in OpenOffice.org Writer's SXW
format. That distribution is now deprecated, so I no longer maintain
them, and I have removed them from my site. If you want a copy, drop me
a line and I will e-mail the files to you.

I think Lout is the way to go and the sooner you convert to [La]TeX or
Lout, the better. You will be free of WYSIWYG quirks.
