Introduction

Jonathan III Heacock and several of his sisters settled in the Niagara frontier in the 1790's. Some of the group were loyalists, some undoubtably went as a result of the persecution the Quakers went through during, and after, the Revolutionary War. Others no doubt went for the tremendous amounts of land that were available in comparison to the "shrinking" farms in eastern Pennsylvania. We know that Jonathan III was "removed" from his meeting for training with the militia, though I personally don't know which side he was willing to fight for. Since there was no province of Ontario until around the 1860's (Dominion), anything west of Quebec was known as Upper Canada and later, Canada West. This family register has been prepared though the efforts of those who submitted information to the Later Day Saints Family History Center and contributed to the many family books and documents and yes,to this webpage. This is a record of the Heacock family which is first recorded in Staffordshire, England. If Staffordshire sounds familar it is mainly a result of the world famous "potteries" an area with fine clay deposits that is home to the great Wedgewood and Spode ceramics. Both are excellent manufacturers of some of the world's finest heirloom quality china.

I have gathered information mainly as it applies to my immediate family but have also been researching the families in the Newmarket and Aurora (Ontario, Canada) area. For more info on the Heacock family or name please go to The Heacock Surname Resource center
There is also a page on the UFT site which I cannot get in to edit so I no longer recommend it. This page is two years newer!

I'm always looking for new information and corrections of any mistakes or omissions. Your contributions of information and yes, criticism, will be appreciated and passed along in newer editions of this register if at all possible. Thanks and enjoy; Kenneth Stephens Heacock
