(brief intro)
As some of you know it
Peter Bart was a poet
And a very good poet was he
He wrote of his life
About struggle and strife
And the railroad's the only place to be
Not only a poet
But a singer, as well
This man could sing from his heart
He would do his best
We've been certainly blest
To have known this man, Peter Bart
His love for the railroad
Can clearly be seen
In so many words that he writes
When he was a young man
He travelled this fine land
And he viewed many beautiful sights
He worked as a fireman
Shovelin' that coal
To keep the steam engine a-goin'
He worked many years
A-doin' just that
He heard the train whistle a-blowin'
He climbed up the ladder
To become engineer
A-sittin' and drivin' the train
He loved C.N.R.
For the work that she gave
And he'd do it all over again
Spoken:
These are some things
I wanted to say
About Peter, our C.N.R. friend
Whose now riding the rails
Away up above
Where life never comes to an end
You know times may get tough
But when the going gets rough
Just think of this old engineer
Spending his time
Writing words that would rhyme
Maybe causing a laugh, or a tear
So we bid you adieu
You're now in God's care
Where some day we're all going to be
Up riding that Train
Of Glory, not pain
Where the souls of men are set free
Sung:
As some of you know it
Peter Bart was a poet
(pause)
And his poems
Have a place in our hearts
