Creative Deck Stripping
I started by stripping in the bow area in pine and then carefully cutting out the flame pattern with a razor knife. I did a little at a time and then steam bent the boarder cedar and ash strips around the cut out pattern. I used lots of tape and wedges to hold the strips in place while the glue dried. |

Once I completed the pine flames I stripped in the cedar and then cut the pattern out for the second flame pattern. Once the pattern was cut I did the boarder strips and then filled in the area with paduk. |

On the Aft deck I started by placing the outside boarder strips that go all the way around the cockpit area. I then stripped in all the pine. With the pine complete I again cut the pattern out with a razor knife. I did a little at a time to prevent breakage and used the scrap pieces to help in bending and gluing the boarder strips.

As I worked on the flame boarders I also continued to strip other areas of the deck. When you do no staple construction it helps keep you going if you have more than one place to glue strips. |

With the flames complete I finished the remainder of the deck and did the cockpit recess |

I did have a couple of places that the boarder strips just would not bend like I wanted so I cut small pieces in a curved shape and inserted them in place. Nobody will probably ever find them. |
