A while back I purchased a Stanley Sure Form. It has flat and a convex blade attachments and is very useful for rough planing the hull and deck.

I took an old blade and screwed it to a piece of 2" diameter half round stock I turned down on a lathe, That way I can use the handle for a fairing board sander. I attach the sand paper to the wood with contact cement. I also have a flat piece of 1/4" plywood 2" x 14" that I can screw to the handle for fairing.
