31. FIND THE STRANGE NUMBER.

Find a number ABCDEFGHIJ such that 'A' is the count of how many 0's are in the number, 'B' is the count of number of 1's, and so on until 'J' represents how many 9's are in the number?

Answer:

The number is 6210001000.

32. STOP LAUGHING.

While three logicians (they are extreemly talented) were sleeping under a tree, a malicious and mischievous child painted their heads red. Upon wakingup, each logician spies the child's handiwork as it applied to the heads of the other two. Naturally they start laughing. Suddenly one falls silent. Why?

Answer:

The one who fell silent, presumably the quickest of the three, reasoned that his head must be painted also. The argument goes as follows. Let's call the quick one Q, and the other two D and S. Let's assume Q's head is untouched. Then D is laughing because S's head is painted, and vice versa. But eventually, D and S will realize that their head must be painted, because the other is laughing. So they will quit laughing as soon as they realize this. So, Q waits what he thinks is a reasonable amount of time for them to figure this out, and when they don't stop laughing, his worst fears are confirmed. He concludes that his assumption is invalid and he must be crowned in crimson too.

33. WHICH IS MAGNET?

You have two similar looking bars of iron. One is a magnet, and the otherone is not. Without using any other instrument (thread, filings, other magnets, etc.), find out which is which?

Answer:

Take the two bars, A and B and put them together like in the shape of the letter 'T'. A being horizontal and B standing vertically and bisecting A. If they stick together, then bar B is the magnet. If they don't, barA is the magnet. REASON: Bar magnets are "dead" in their centres (i.e. there is no magnetic force, since the two poles cancel out). So if bar A is the magnet, then bar B won't stick to its center. However, bar magnets are quite "alive" at their edges (i.e. the magnetic force is concentrated). So, if bar B is the magnet, then barA will stick nicely to its end.

34. UP OR DOWN?

Hanging over a pulley there is a rope, with a weight at one end. At the other end hangs a monkey of equal weight. What happens if the monkey starts to ascend the rope? Assume that the mass of the rope and pulley are negligible, and the pulley is frictionless.

Answer:

The monkey is pulling down on the rope hard enough to pull itself up. This increases the tension in the rope just enough to cause the weight to rise at the same rate as the monkey, since they are of equal mass.

35. SPOTTING ADAM AND EVE.

A man dies and goes to heaven. There he sees an assembly of hundreds of people both male and female, in their birthday suits, ( i.e. they were not donning any dresses on.) amongst which stand Adam and Eve. He immediately recognizes them. How did he do it?

Answer:

He recognized Adam and Eve as the only people without navels. Because they were not born of women, they had never had umbilical cords and therefore they never had navels. NOTE: Puritannical, conservatives and die-hard fundamentalists of theological schools, kindly excuse me for the above explanation.

36. ROUND OR SQUARE?

Why is it better to have round man-hole covers than square ones?

Answer:

A square manhole cover can be turned and dropped down the diagonal of the manhole. A round manhole cannot be dropped down the manhole. So for safety and practicality, all manhole covers should be round.

37. OLDER OR YOUNGER?

One day Kerry celebrated her birthday. Two days later her older twin brother, Terry, celebrated his birthday. How come? What is the logical explanation for this seemingly a fallacy or paradox?

Answer:

At the time she went into labor, the mother of the twins was travelling by boat. The older twin, Terry, was born first early on March 1st. The boat then crossed the International Date line (or anytime zone line) and Kerry, the younger twin, was born on February the28th. In a leap year the younger twin celebrates her birthday twodays before her older brother.

38. THE LIVING AND THE DEAD.

Two men go into a restaurant and both have a glass of ice cold coke. The glasses both had the EXACT same contents. There was same amount of poison in the glasses. One man drank his coke fast and lived. The other man drank his slow and died. Why?

Answer:

The poison is in the ice. The person who drinks fast finishes it before the ice melts and the poison gets into the coke. Hence he survives.

39. UNKNOWN TELEPHONE NUMBER

A man telephones from the public call office to his family and after finishing the conversation comes out of it and dies on the road. However, the man at the booth contacts his (dead man's) family without knowing the telephone number. How did he do it?

Answer:

The man at the booth presses the redial button and notes the number previously dialled.

40. DIFFERENCE IN DRIVING.

Two brothers were talking. One said, "I am fed up with living in Birmingham, U.S.A. because I have to drive all the time. Why don't we move to London?" His brother replied, "But that would mean that I would have to drive all the time." Any explanation logically convincing for the above conversation?

Answer:

The two brothers are siamese twins and since the rules of driving the cars in U.S.A and London differ in the sense that in the former, one has to keep right whereas in the latter one must keep left while driving. Hence these rules perforce the twin to change for the other to drive when shifting to London.
