William Mayfield College

Will Mayfield College was established by Dr. William Henderson Mayfield in Marble Hill, Missouri, in 1885.  It orginally offered high school courses with two years of junior college training.  Students could then continue on in their education at Southeast Missouri State Teachers' College.

The college is now in the process of being restored as a historical site in Missouri.  The building is open to the public and can be toured for a small fee.

This shot was taken on a foggy morning in Marble Hill.

There is a monument that describes the college that you can see in the photo.  The college is located right in the heart of Marble Hill.

William Mayfield College was one of the first junior colleges ever established in the United States.
