Duel of the Brave Ones isn't really a martial art movie, it's more of a gangster movie
in a modern setting with a little spice o' kung fu thrown in. Over
all, this is a very poor attempt at a gangster/kung fu flick. The
main element that basically destroys this movie is the fact they tried
to incorporate humor in a crime thriller. It doesn't work. At some
parts it gets straight goofy. The saving grace for this particular
film is the fight scenes. Wilson Tong did a good job choreographing the
fights, but they are scarce making this movie a dud when
it comes to action. You find yourself bored in the first half-hour
and it pretty much stays that way for the rest of the film. The only
reason to buy this particular movie would be the movie that comes
with it called Mantis Fist Tiger Claw of Shaolin. If it weren't for
that movie this one wouldn't be worth buying, but since groundzero put
them on the same DVD, it makes them worth the money.
