I woke up on that December day with the desire
to buy a gift for Jesus, after all,
there is no greater friend than the Master of Masters,
and on the 25th his birthday is His.
I left home early and went to the largest Shopping Center
in the city, I first thought of a white shirt,
but when I saw that the whitest white man on Earth was still
it was gray close to its purity, I was ashamed
and gave up.
In another showcase I saw a leather shoe,
beautiful and very expensive, but when I remembered your feet
covered by the sandals of the mission accomplished, I thought
that there would not be anything on Earth that was so comfortable that
your feet deserved it.
A pen, that's what the next showcase
presented me, a beautiful pen from a famous brand,
would be a beautiful gift, but I remembered that He
never wrote anything, everything He said, showed
in practice, serving and loving always.
I remembered that one day He said he hadn’t
not even a pillow to lean his head on,
and I thought of the best feather pillow in a
store that specializes in sleep, it was imported and very
comfortable, but I remembered that the just slept
peacefully and that He would never use the pillow.
And so I looked at the windows, gold cufflinks,
suitcases, fine drinks, imported foods,
everything superfluous, everything that time would eat away.
I confess that
I left the Shopping mall a little upset, after all I had gone out to buy a gift for
You Jesus, and I hadn't found anything.
At the mall door a very small boy
smiled at me, asked my name and I his,
he laughed and held out his hand, his face was very dirty,
his hands were grimy, I asked about his mother,
he shrugged, about his father, he didn't even know where he was .. .
I asked if he wanted to have a snack,
he smiled a yes, took my hand.
At the Mall door she looked at her clothes
and he looked at me, he knew he was not properly
dressed, I took him in my lap, it was the password to be happy,
his little eyes roamed those lights, ornaments and
beautiful people as if it were a Walt Disney movie ...
In the cafeteria sat in the swivel chair and smiled
like "little king", and amid a mountain of fries,
we laughed happily like two old friends.
We talked about marbles, kites and soccer balls, which
are important for human beings, especially
when we are children.
We devoured two snacks, and when I asked if he wanted
a giant ice cream as a dessert, his eyes shone like
the sun, I asked for a moment, I went to the cashier,
when I came back with the ice cream in his hand he was no longer there ...
For a moment I thought he had gone to the bathroom,
or he would have been looking at the cafeteria, but he wasn't there.
It was when on the empty potato box I saw a small piece of paper,
a note written in small letters that said:
... "Thanks for the best birthday present
that you could give me:
- You made one of the little ones in the world happy! "
Signed, Jesus.
" Whatever you do to one of these little ones, you
will do to me ".
