The Family Bible

A Poem to remind us what is important this season and always

A visit to my attic
Brought memories dear to me
Hiding in a corner
A brown trunk I could see.

I opened it so carefully
I couldn't help but cry
The loveliest things you've ever seen
Treasures from years gone by.

A china doll so fragile
Jewelry in a satin case
Dresses oh so beautiful
Soft wool all trimmed in lace.

A picture of my Mother
Recipes written on a pad
Shaving cup and brush wrapped up
Belonging to my Dad.

Yet the most precious thing I found
More valuable than silver or gold
Tattered and worn from years of use
It had to be very old.

It was our family bible
Wrapped in tissue yellowed from age
Something I'll always cherish
As I viewed the tattered page.

Words are plainly visible
They came from our Lord above
I'll covet my family bible
And cherish it with love.
