Grandma's Cookies

When I sit and ponder
Memories of days long past
There are some precious memories
That always seem to last

It's memories of Grandma
Baking cookies just for me
Yes, my grandma was an angel
As she stood and made the treats

She'd take a little bit of this
A little dab of that
And stir it all together
While with anticipation, I sat

She'd always take the time for me
From her daily chores
With all the things she had to do
Baking cookies was just one more

I'd run into the house to ask for milk
And cookies from her jar
She'd pour the milk and smile at me
I'd have cookies within the hour

While she stood and stirred the mix
She'd smile and talk of days gone by
While she was recollecting
Sometimes a tear would form in her eyes

She'd share things of her childhood
How her momma taught her to grow
As she was sharing life with me
Tiny seeds she began to sow

I took her treasured memories
Mixed with the cookies that she baked
She knew she wasn't just baking cookies
But as she shared the cookies, a part of her life I'd take

Oh, today there is much sadness
With pre-made cookies on shelves in stores
There isn't time when they are baked
For memories to be built and stored

I thank the Lord for Grandma
And her wisdom as she baked
My favorite cookies when I asked
And the precious memories saved
