You
still want to know a little bit more about your hostess?
Oh... all right then... However, do not complain that I do
not know how to write about myself... I warned you... LOL!!
I’m
originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, but have been living
in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for many years. My mom’s entire
family lives in the U.S. and I miss them very much. Now that I’m
thinking of it maybe I’ll do a genealogy study about my
family’s roots… Okay Sylvia Ann… you are rambling again!
Where was I anyway? LOL!
I love to write as much as I enjoy reading. I hope that in a
near future, I will have enough courage to upload many of my
personal writings. Meanwhile, I like to search the Internet
for poems, romances, quotes, and even books. My true wish is
that I will be able through my site give the opportunity to
display all sorts of writings, from poetry through entire
books for every one who has pleasure in reading but, due to
their budgets can not afford to buy every new book that is new
on the market. I know it is a big dream, but I am the dreamer,
and only the dreamer can change the dream...
Some images
from Rio de Janeiro - Hope you like them!
One
of my favorite passions is called nature. I love all things
that are related to mother nature: plants, flowers, gardens,
rivers, oceans, mountains, streams, birds, animals,
butterflies, I just love it all! I am a mountain type person.
I enjoy cold weather (I am not very fond of Summer...); a hot
cup of wild berry tea and a book next to the fireplace is just
the perfect combination!
French Quarter - New
Orleans
I
appreciate good music. Once upon a time, I had to decide
between two careers: concert artist, or a ballet dancer. Well,
turns out that my choice was the second option. Nevertheless,
I love to listen to real golden oldies and nice country music,
not to mention good jazz of course! One could say that I am an
ancient spirit existing within a not so aged physical body.
LOL!! (I laugh with my own silly jokes...) Nat
"King" Cole, Perry Como, Andy Williams, Frank
Sinatra, Kenny Rogers and Randy Travis, are some of my
favorite golden oldies & country male singers. I also
enjoy some music from the 70's, not heavy rock though... I am
a romantic person. Therefore, I will always prefer the easy
listening type of tunes such as ballads and so far... My
favorite female singers are Barbra Streisand, Carly Simon,
Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Reba McEntire and Nathalie Cole
(talent runs in that family!!!) I enjoy the instrumental music
as long as the musician does not start creating a never ending
solo. I prefer the acoustic instruments rather than the
electronic ones. Carole King, James Taylor, Kenny G, Cat
Stevens and David Sanborn are good examples that I could give.
However, let's not forget the classical music. I love Strauss
(makes me remember my ballet days…), Mozart, Beethoven,
Chopin, Tchaikowsky, and Lizt, just to mention some of them.
My
favorite type of dish is "big & full"!
(*giggles*) Well, I actually don't eat that much. It's a habit
from my ballet years. I nibble the whole day. My normal
choices for snacks are fruit. Here in Brazil, talking about
fruit is like going wild! I enjoy all of them, but specially
passion fruit, peach, strawberry (all berries, in fact...),
mango, and so many more that if I list all of them here, it
would take the entire page!
Cafe Du Monde
I
love Italian, Chinese, and Brazilian food. However, I have to
admit, that being born in New Orleans, Louisiana, I just love
French food, more specifically Cajun! Hummm... I can just
imagine myself sitting with a ton of crawfish and crabs, and
Gumbo, and all the seafood I could possibly eat! My folks on
my mother's side were all great Chefs! My Grandma Winnie and
my Grandpa Simon were descendents from French settlers who
lived in Nova Scotia. Afterwards they finally settled down in
the "Bayou Country" of Louisiana. One of my fondest
memories is the Sunday meal at my Grandma's and Grandpa's.
They were both such great cooks that there was always a
"slight" dispute in order to see who was going to
prepare the family's meal. (*giggles*) My favorite dish that
my Grandpa Simon used to cook and that I would eat until my
mother started to give me "the look" (which meant:
"Stop right now young lady or else…") was Red
Beans and Rice Creole Style. Two of the best dishes made by my
Grandma Winnie were Creole Gumbo and Fried Chicken. I would
literally eat like a nut! (*smiles*) My mom is an excellent
cook herself. She inherited the cooking skills from her
parents and their unique style of giving you the recipe for a
dish: "Oh you put a lil bit of this, a sprinkle of that,
about a hand full of those other things…" How on Earth
can one actually cook any dish based on that kind of recipe
guidelines? LOL!!!
I
love Brazil, I really do, but sometimes I miss my hometown so
much... Beignets and Cafè au Lait, The Riverwalk, Canal St.,
French Quarters, Po'boy Sandwich, Antoine's, Brennan's… Oh
my... Here I am strolling down memory lane... Well in New
Orleans there's the Mardi Gras and here in Brazil we have
Carnival! People go wild here and there! LOL!!
