The rex has very plush, velvety fur, which was the product of a strange mutation in gray rabbits that eliminated all the guard hairs in the rabbit's fur. They were introduced in France in 1924, and later in the USA. Original Rexes were very flat-shouldered, long bodied rabbits. Inbreeding has changed that around a little.
