2nd Brigade 5th Division is responsible for the organizing, training & supervision of the Brigade.

Cold Weather Training is a must for a well regulated militia capable of conducting independent actions on a year around basis in Lake County MI.

Cold weather manuals are a means to help the staff & member(s) to refresh knowledge & skills already learned, prepare members for ongoing training.
Each member is encouraged to study each subject, learn the information, practice the techniques contained in the manuals.

Subjects taught during winter training are;
Use of the buddy system in cold weather team operations, adequate beverages nutrition, meal planning, effects first aid of hypothermia, cold weather injuries & frostbite.
Developing, practicing methods of proper dress avoiding overheating sweating, layering for protection from the elements, wet cold dry cold environments during the winters of Michigan.
Developing, practicing methods of winter travel, by foot, snowshoe, cross country ski & vehicle with the use of sleds to transport supplies & equipment.
Developing practicing methods of building improvised shelters, above below the ground & snow, depending on available materials, time of season, weather conditions, snow fall. Heating, carbon monoxide poisoning, sleeping, security measures.
Developing practicing methods of collecting fuel, fire starting, keeping a fire going in outdoor winter conditions.
Developing practicing methods of collecting purifying water, cooking using wood fires & white gas stoves.
Developing practicing methods of hunting & ice fishing during the winter months.
Developing practicing methods use of sanitary latrine procedures, trail discipline, security routines, team tactics & conducting base camp operations during winter.

The purpose of the unorganized militia is to protect life, liberty, community, local, state, national infrastructure & to ASSIST the lawful authorities of the state & nation in time of crisis.

Lake County MI 2nd Brigade
5th Division is compromised of able bodied citizens 18 - 60 years of age from Lake County MI.
All members are required to purchase & maintain their own rifles, ammo, uniforms & equipment. Members attend one 4 hour meeting & one 24 hour meeting a month at Level 1 & 2

Small Unit Training is conducted year around. Training this winter will include principles of dressing in layers, methods practice of winter travel, fire starting, water resupply, purification, use of 4 season tents, improvised shelter construction, base camp operations, security, scouting, patrolling & team tactics. Emphasis will be placed on use of 4 season tents, construction of improvised shelters to help conceal, protect the teams from observation & the elements. Bring your overwhites, snowshoes, sled, saw, shovel, sleeping bag & small stove w/fuel. Members with white camouflage netting, 4 season tent(s) & snowmobile(s) are encouraged to bring them for security, safety, supply reasons.
