History of Louisiana Tech Cycling

I'm still attempting to find more info on when Tech Cycling started and what the team did over the years.

Special thanks to Jim Liner for providing me the information we have now.

Jim posted some races he particpated with the team on ...
check them out

According to the 1989 yearbook, La Tech Cycling Team was formed in 1985. '88 was a lax year for the team, but a renewed effort to reestablish it was brought forth... and so they raced. (At this time it was mostly all road biking).

Jim did most of his riding with the team in the early 1990s. I'm not sure what happened between him and us. They were very competitive during that era.

It seems cyclic (no pun intended) that the team goes from competitive to barely alive, then back again. I'm sure if we can get a regular "routine" of competing going on, we can probably sustain ourselves.

Perhaps we can work to recruit people to Louisiana Tech for cycling. It seems the quarter system seems to suck what little time you have to ride straight out of you.

(cycling  running)
I started my official running career my soph year of high school. Continued training provided substaintal drops in running times. I was and am primarily a distance runner.
PR:
10K 39.06
5K 18.08
2 mile: 11.58
1 mile: 5.18
I have always been interested in cycling and purchased my first "good" bike (Trek 850) in 6th grade, followed by my most pricy bike (Cannodale M900) in 8th grade. Though I never raced, I always have had a great time. My only real PR's are fastest speed (on mtnbike) 32.5mph (no wind, flat ground), fastest with aids 45.5 mph (big hill + pedaling) , and a 320' wheelie. Most of my cycling skills where acquired in cane fields and my neighborhood. I think it is safe to say I have probably run and ridden more miles around those streets than anyone ever has. I'm currently the President of Tech Cycling and hope to get us more recognition and have a competing team shortly!

Lenora Schilling
swimming
I am a fourth-year architecture student from Vicksburg, MS who loves to swim. I began swimming when I was twelve with the River City Racers and grew to really appreciate swimming as a sport in high school. I was one of the original members of the first ever Vicksburg High School Swim team and swam with the MS School for Math and Science team my junior and senior years. In the summertime through high school, I was a lifeguard and taught swimming lessons as a Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructor for the City Pool in Vicksburg. I am still currently certified as a WSI. Although not for competiton, I have continued to swim throughout my time at Tech. For me, it has become more therapeutic than anything. Over the past four years, I have had four operations on two ruptured lubar discs. I find that many of the activities I used to participate in cause me a great deal of pain. Swimming truly is the best exercise for healing and staying in shape for just about anyone who chooses it.

I'm graphic designer (
see our logo!) and a graduate of La Tech. Currently reside in Ruston, but commute to my job in West Monroe everyday. I should move to West Monroe, but I can't seem to leave the Lincoln Parish Park, which is a second home to me and my bike. I've competed in an Xterra Triathlon, USAT duathlon, and other races at the park. Visit my website!
