THREE LAYER SOAP

Each layer will have the same amount of oils, water, and lye, except for the last layer. The last layer which will be your top, usually gets ash on it. The extra allows you to cut away the ash and still keep the layers uniform. I use a 9 1/2 X 12 1/2 inches wooden box. There are 18 bars that are 2 X 3 inches. I have discounted the lye by 7%, use any colorant or fragrance of your choice.

1st layer:
8 oz Olive Oil
6 oz Coconut Oil
7 oz distilled water (put aside 1 1/2 TBSP. of the water before you add the lye
for the colorant)
2.69 oz or 77 grams of lye
1 tsp. of borax (the one in the supermarket for laundry) this helps give you
more lather in the soap.
Colorant (make sure to measure the same amount if you are going to use the same color again)
For the mint color, I used a mix of 1 TBSP. of warm distilled water and 1 3/4 tsp. of Hydrated Chromium Oxide
2 tsp. of Peppermint Essential Oil

2nd layer
- same as above except use 1 tsp. of water dispersible Titanium
Dioxide with 1 TBSP. of warm distilled water.
2 tsp. of Spearmint Essential Oil

3rd layer:
8 oz Olive Oil
6.5 oz Coconut Oil
5.5 oz Palm Oil
8 oz distilled water(put aside 1 1/2 TBSP. Of the water before you add the lye
for the colorant) 2.85 oz or 80 grams of lye
1 tsp. of borax
Same amount of the colorant as on the first layer
2 tsp. of Peppermint Essential Oil

Melt your oils, set aside. Mix your lye and borax into the distilled water. When both the lye water and Oil reach between 90 and 100, mix the lye water into the oils. Once you have reached your trace, add the colorant, mix well and then add the EO or FO. Pour into your prepared mold and cover.

Now prepare the next layer and repeat the same as above. You need 1 1/2 hours between each pour. I found by the time I had the second layer ready that it was time to pour again. I did the same for the third layer. Then I left it well insulated for 24 hours.
