Cold Processed Caramel Soap
By Jill

The reason it is called Caramel soap, the milk makes it smell like caramel. A nice fragrance for that would be Apple.

1 cup of Palm Oil
½ cup of Crisco
½ of Coconut Oil

1 ¼ cup of whole milk
¼ cup of lye

Put the oils in a stainless steel pot or enamel (never use aluminum), melt down the oils but be careful not to over heat the oils. Set aside and let the temperature of the oils cool down to 95 degrees.* Pour the milk into a glass or stainless steel bowl. Get a larger bowl and fill it with ice cubes and very cold water. Set the milk bowl into the ice bowl , being careful not to get water into the milk. Next measure your lye and "very slowly" pour it into the milk using a stainless steel whisk to stir it rapidly. Once all the lye is mixed into the milk, start pouring the lye milk into the oils, stirring the whole time with the wire whisk. Stir either with the wire whisk or a stick blender until you achieve a trace. Add your fragrance oil and pour into your prepared mold. Put the mold some place draft free and let it cure for 24 hours (you do not have to insulate the milk soap with blankets).

*During the cooling time, I get my wooden box lined with freezer paper. I make sure my corners are smooth, I use masking tape to keep the corners flat.
