Dream Gown
13 October 2005: Ok, definitely do-able by Halloween. For this dress, I plan on having a two-ply chiffon top layer, and a more opaque lining. I'm using a simple tank dress with bust and back darts and a zipper for the underlayer, and the top layer will be two light purple chiffons flatlined against each other. This is what I've done so far:

- Bought all my fabric and necessary pattern [will get number to you shortly] which included 3 yards each of lavender and wild orchid chiffon, and about 3+ yards total of two different lining fabrics .
- Cut out all fabric - this is where the second lining color came in, I ran out of the first one and had to go back for a second helping and I thought to myself hey, two-tone's not a bad idea.
- Fitted my first dress pattern horribly wrong, and have wasted already 3 yards plus of lining fabric. Note to self: MUSLINS WORK BETTER.
- Modified and re-cut out of the second, darker purple lining and still have a ways to go on that.

So basically I've come to the conclusion that today was a horrible experience after not having sewed in a god-awful long time. It's discouraging, but also makes me more determined to finish what I've started. Mostly, I've found out I look really effin great in lavender, and will explore this as a color option for my "real-life" wardrobe as well. What I've got to figure out for the rest of the project is:

-
Should I go back out into the world and buy more lining fabric?  Or should I make a facing? Either way, they're the only options I have because that's the method for attaching the tiny straps.
-
Should I scoop out the neckline? I probably will because it would lend itself to my 5'11'' frame, a higher neckline tends to close me up too much, and with the cowl, it would look way stuffy and too busy.

Well, I guess that's all I can possibly think of right now, as it's definitely 2:30 in the morning.
