By CarTake A627(M) to junction with M62. At roundabout take 3rd exit (sign posted Leeds). In 35 miles at junction 30 (A642) leave motorway and at roundabout take 1st exit (A642 York). In 1.2 miles (Oulton) take 1st exit off roundabout and at next one take 3rd exit (A642). Follow A642 for 7.4 miles to junction with A1. Over crossroad's and turn left to join A1(N). A1 and A1(m) north for 77 miles to junction with A690, leave motorway (sign posted Sunderland) and at roundabout take 3rd exit to join A690. In 6.2 miles at junction with A19 at roundabout take 1st exit to join A19 (sign posted Tyne Tunnel). In 3.2 miles at junction with A1231 branch left (sign posted Sunderland) and at roundabout take 3rd exit to join A1231. Straight on at 4 roundabouts until you come to a series of traffic lights. Straight on at the first and second set following the signs for Roker (B1289) and Wearmouth Bridge. You can see Stadium of Light ahead on right in 0.5 miles. The stadium is on the site of the old Wearmouth Colliery and the access roads are quite narrow for the last 0.5 miles so it might be a good idea to use the park and ride areas you will see on the A1231.
