Take A627 towards Ashton-under-Lyne. Keep straight on for 4 miles until roundabout. Take 3rd exit A635 (sign posted Manchester). In 0.25 mile at junction with A6017 follow signs for Stockport. At mini roundabout turn left and pass Guide Bridge station. In 1.2 miles turn right onto M67. At end of motorway (0.8 miles) take first exit off roundabout to join M66. At junction 12 forward onto M63. At junction 10 (A34) take M56. In 7.7 miles take exit at junction 7. At roundabout take 1st exit (A556) for Birmingham. At junction with M6 (4.5 miles) take first exit to join M6(s). In 84 miles at Junction 3 (A444) leave motorway and take the third exit off the roundabout (sign posted Coventry A444). This is the new road that takes you into town and joins the bottom of Foleshill Road at the Courtaulds factory. Turn right here towards the City Centre and junction 1 of the Inner Ring Road. Leave at the next exit and follow the tortuous route to Bell Green/Hillfields. Straight across the lights at McGuigan's and up the hill through Hillfields high street. Straight over the mini roundabout, down the hill and look for somewhere to park. Walk through the small rec and you'll be on Thackall Street.

Nearest Station: COVENTRY

It's an idyllic 2 mile walk to the stadium through the picturesque cityscape that is Coventry. Follow the signposts from the station to the City Centre. Emerge from the well-appointed underpass into a lovingly-kept parklet/garden. Follow the path, past the Co-op bank on your left, and then on around to your right. Go quickly passed the Flanker and Firkin and turn left when you reach the Plod Station. Up here, then bear right when you come to the gothic Council House. Down the road until you reach the large junction. The Colin Campbell is on the right. Pause here and decide your next move. Straight on will take you to Far Gosford and any number of fine ale houses (see below). The top of this street joins the Sky Blue Way and the ground is a couple of hundred yards from here. Just follow the crowds, taking care not to end up at Tesco's. Turning left at the Campbell takes you passed The Lanch (Coventry University if you prefer), under the elephant-shaped (I'm not kidding) sports centre towards The Elastic Inn which is opposite Theatre One Cinema. After a couple here, left out of the door and bear left at the roundabout. Up the hill until the t-junction. The Binley Oak will be in front of you. Left here, then first right to the stadium. You could always take the jessie, soft option of the bus. Numbers 17 or 27. Or if you're a big, girlie whatsit get a taxi.

From the Coach Parks

A coach will either get you into the White Street depot or Pool Meadow. If its the former, turn right out of the depot and follow the directions for going through Hillfields (motorbike from the north). For the latter, walk across the car park towards Theatre One Cinema and follow the instructions from The Elastic Inn (train info).

By Bus

From Pool Meadow the 7, 35 or 36 will get you to the ground. Or thereabouts. The full monty from the City Centre - 7, 7A, 8, 31A, 31C, 32, 32A, 32C, 33, 33A, 33C, 37, 47, 13, 13A, 13C and 34. (Thank you Terry Potts.)

Alehouses

Near the Railway Station:

The Rocket is a large M&B pub with `grub'. Don't expect any decent `beer', unless you're from Birmingham. Gets a bit crowded of a Saturday lunchtime. Very popular with the travelling SBA on their way to the Villa.

Near the Bus Station

The Elastic Inn. Packed with City fans and serves a fine pint of Guinness. You'll usually find Dr Pete and me there before kick off. Not that I'm going to tell you what we look like.

The Forresters. Just up from The Elastic. Even smaller but just as packed. Another fine pint of Guinness and a decent fall-back if the Elastic is heaving.

City Centre

Wine Bars, theme pubs and s**t-holes. I've heard The Three Tuns isn't bad. On the way out of town, towards the ground, there's always the Lady Godiva (The Dive) and The Colin Campbell

Far Gosford Street

Nearer the ground and a lot more promising. First off is The Beer Engine but you'll need ear defenders. Why is it beer-boys have to bellow at their mates who are only 3mm away? I went in once with a hangover and nearly threw. Next up on the right-hand side is The Hand on Heart. A lively place with some interesting local fauna and yet more decent Guinness. A hop and a skip further along is The Gosford Tavern. Again, very popular and a bit of a squeeze on a Saturday. Huge TV screen in the back room. There is another pub opposite but I've forgotten the name and never been in. So.

Near Highfield Road

Just around the corner is The Binley Oak. I believe it is quite welcoming to away supporters. No idea what the beer is like.

A mere stagger from the ground is The Sky Blue Tavern. The club bought this last season and there have been rumours about it being demolished to make way for extensions to the stadium. Don't even think of going in here if you haven't got transfers all over your arms. Although you could try it if your big toes can be used as thumbs and you're really good at climbing up goalposts.

All the interesting commentary from and including the rail directions of Big Fat Gordon's SKY BLUE Army.
