Previous
to the 1955/56 season the Latics programme had been exactly the same
cover and basic content ever since the first ever programme was issued
for the game against Bolton Wanderers Reserves on October 13,1906 when
the Latics where still a member of the Lancashire Combination. This example
is for a match against Bristol Rovers on Easter Monday 1954.
In 1956
the club finally made a alteration to the matchday programme. The actual
content remained about the same but by doubling the size of the programme
the number of sheets could be halved to make a saving in production costs.
This style of programme lasted three seasons.
For the 1959-60 season the size of the programme was again reduced to a
single sheet folded three times and the advertising had all but disappeared.
The size was 24.6cm by 12.2cm.
The oldest programme that I have in my collection is this Oldham Athletic
reserve programme for a game against Everton Reserves in 1909. This was
before our main kit became blue and white. We where still playing in the
dreaded red and white.
