This never made a whole lot of sense until now.  These haystacks are built on a wooden frame and small doorway makes a way for a person to climb "under" the haystack where it is warm and dry and people often sleep here.
These log cabins are actually the remains of ancient floating villages, which have been discovered under water, raised to the surface and restored as a tourist attraction.

Come Blow your horn
The sheep's in the meadow
The cow's in the corn
Where is the boy
Who looks after the sheep
He's under the haystack
Fast Asleep.
A Stork's nest on top of a pole.  This is a common site throughout Latvia.
