The tradition began with the Bicentennial in 1976 and has grown to be "the party of the year". This year's event will once again feature lots of good food, popular D.J., Joey "D" -- back for his sixth appearance -- and the singing Laufers (and Malones).
Everyone is asked to bring a chair, a treat (favorite covered dish, appetizer or desert), and a desire for a good time -- and, oh yes, wear something RED, WHITE, and BLUE. Because it is Penny's Birthday, it would be nice if everyone brought a balloon.
Those who intend to sleep over should bring a sleeping bag or air mattress. Those who bring tents should plan to set them up as soon as they arrive. In former years several people had difficulty setting up their tents in the dark.
It is important to get to the party early, because throngs of people come to Vincentown for the Fireworks, and by around 7:00 p.m. the local police stop vehicles from entering the village. If you should happen to be late, try to convince the traffic controllers that you have been promised off-street parking at Laufers. Parking will be a little more difficult this year because of the reconstruction work on the Vincentown Dam on Race Street
All the Laufers hope to see you on July 10.
