PENNY LAUFER'S PAGE

A native of Mannington, West Virginia, Penny has been a New Jersey resident since our marriage in 1969. The mother of the four Laufer's featured here, she is a Dental Office Manager in Mount Holly, New Jersey. Her life has been her family and she has been the mainstay of the family throughout the years. A colon cancer survivor, she came through a tough year in 1991-92, and is living proof that faith, fortitude, friends and family can get you through any crisis.

Among her personal interests is the cultivation of several small gardens at her Vincentown homestead. Click here for a view of

Penny's father emigrated from the town of Beit Mery, Lebanon, a small resort town a few miles outside of Beirut. He was one of many Lebanese to settle in Mannington, West Virginia. Our daughter, Kerry, recently (Spring of 2000) visited Beit Mery and discovered a number of relatives there. Several years ago, Reverend Arthur C. Prichard of Mannington wrote an article in Goldenseal, a magazine of West Virginia history and folklore, about the Lebanese Community in Mannington. The title refers to the average weight of the back pack the Lebanese peddlers carried from town to town on foot. It provides an interesting insight into the Penny's family roots and the environment in which she was raised. Click below for the entire article.
