Dear Laura_
I noticed
that you have Ruby de Abrew on your family tree when
I was looking on the Ancestry site.
My
grandmother was Matilda Abeysekera (nee de Abrew) and her sisters were Ellen, Alice and Harriet. Her
sons were Vincent and Absalom and her daughter Agnes. Do you know if there is a
connection? I would be most grateful for your help. Vincent was born in 1879
and died in 1952 in London and Matilda died aged 79 in Wellawatte
but I do not have the date.
Many thanks
Caroline
Thank you,
Hi My name
is Marie de Silva Married to Russell Lionel De Silva (born in Sri-lanka) who is the son of Lionel E de Silva (B:
17/09/1919) and Enid Winifred De Kretser (9/10/1930)
Lionel E de Silva is the son of Donald de Silva and Norma (or Nora)
Constance Bowen. Enid Winifred De Kretser is the daughter of Gilberta
De Kretser (was not married to the biological
father). Gilberta was the daughter of Gilbert Walston De Kretser and Winifred Passe. However Enid
was raised the Hector Eugene De Kretser (the
grandfather’s brother) she had step sisters and brothers Irma, Phyllis, Esme, Hector, Carlton, Horace and Edith (which most of them
has passed away in Australia.
What we are
trying to find is what was my mother-in-law’s mother (Gilberta DE KRETSER) date of birth and year she died. Did she ever get married and did she give
birth to any other children.
Are you
able to assist? Or where can I get this
kind of information. My mother in law
biological father was Raja Paxa Periera
(not too sure on the spelling) and I was told that Gilberta
might have married somebody by the surname of Schoemaker!
Or is it Schumacher
Dear Laura:
I have been
trying for several years to find out any information about Padshabee
- e.g. Who was she?? What religion was she? Muslim? Hindu? Other?
If Hindu, what caste? What proof is there that she actually married James
George Coleman? Who were her parents? When did she die? When James George
Coleman retired from the East India Company in 1847 and left India for France,
what happened to Padshabee? Did she go with him? Was
she dead then? Etc. Can you help me?
Thanks

My name is
Patrick Wolfe-Milner, and I live on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia,
Canada. I am a grandson of Arthur Raymond Layard, whom you have shown on your
tree. He, his wife, Molly Strachan Layard (Oswald), and his four children (two
daughters and two sons) lived and, except for one son, died on Salt Spring.
Somewhere in his ancestry is a Lattey family.
If there is
information I can give you, please email me at [email protected].
Thnx...Pat

Hi Laura,
I recently
discovered your entry in Roots. I am interested in locating my ancestors and
was wondering whether you had much by way of information about the Obeysekera’s. My paternal grandmother was Peace Obeysekera, daughter of John Alvin Obeyesekera
and Mrtle Alice Obeysekera. If you can be of assistance I will be most
grateful.
Kind
regards
Noeline
Hi Laura,
Don’t
suppose you have any further info on Patrick Wilmot D’Silva
(also possibly know as Percival)?
Married
Marjorie la Brooy
We are
really at a dead end here with this name and any help would be greatly
appreciated!
Thanks

Dear Laura,
In October of last year you very kindly
sent me copied pages of the Twentieth Century Impressions of Ceylon. The picture was of my great aunt's husband -
Walter Edward Keell.
I noticed that you have been doing
research on Sri Lanka births. I tried
just a little over a year ago to look for the births my aunt and that of my
grandfather. I must have looked at 20 or
so films - many in Singhalese - so that was a complete loss.
I also know that much of your research is
Dutch Burgher related but in your research, will you please keep in mind my
aunt, Katherine Elizabeth Keell nee Scott and my grandfather, George Duncan
Scott. Aunt Kate was born September 14,
1877 and my grandfather in 1882 or 1883.
Both believed to be born in Nuwara Eliya. Their father,
my great grandfather, is supposed to have left Scotland to find his fortune in
Ceylon. On my grandparent’s marriage
certificate, my great grandfather was listed as a Colonial General Merchant but
was deceased at the time of their marriage in 1916. My grandparents happened to have been married
in England so that's at least one certificate that has been easy to find.
Many Thanks
Elizabeth
