Deception...
Deception is a word meaning to trick or deceive. Deception occurs on a daily basis and manifests itself in many different forms. During our trip to the AGO, we noticed that art can be deceptive as well. What appears to be simple at first glance, can actually be a work of art that works on many levels. The eye can be deceived at first into thinking that there is only one component to the work, while in fact there may be many more.
The piece of art shown above is the sculpture that we chose. It was sculpted in 1981 by Inuit artist Mathew Kunangnat out of stone and antler. At first glance, it appears to be an animal, but upon closer examination, it clearly has a human-like face.
