Welcome to
An Old
Fashioned
Christmas
It's cold here
in December
And I'm
sitting here
alone
I'm
thinking of
the Christmas'
When I was not
full grown.
We'd get a
tree that was
freshly cut
And it never
went "up" too
soon
Santa put
it up himself
By the light
of a shiny
moon.
Then we came
down on
Christmas morn
And much to my
surprise
There was the
splendid
Christmas tree
Right before
my very eyes.
It was
decorated
carefully
With balls and
tinsel and
lights
It took up
half the
living room
And glowed
through the
winter nights
Times were
hard before
the war
Presents, they
were not many
But I was sure
to get a few
Some kids
didn't get
any.
We were very
lucky indeed
My daddy had a
paycheck
Mama cooked
and baked for
days
At times our
kitchen looked
a wreck
I never felt
that we were
poor
In fact, we
were quite
happy
We were
content with
what we had
Today that
sounds rather
"sappy"
I wouldn't
trade those
lean years
To have a lot
of toys
Christmas is
not presents
It's the
laughter and
the joys
It's Christmas
songs and
children
It's wonder
and it's cheer
And, I, for
one look
forward
To Christmas
every year.
