JAKARTA (JP): Maluku Police chief Brig. Gen. Soenarko Danu
Ardianto vowed on Saturday to run a good coordination with the
military authorities in handling Maluku conflicts, report said.
Speaking after attending a discussion at Maluku Media Center in
Ambon capital of Maluku, Soenarko said that he has yet to receive
guidance on his duties on the new security arrangement under the
Maluku Security and Order Operation which is led by Pattimura
Military chief Maj. Gen. Djoko Santoso.
"Eventhough I haven't received any official guidance on
the matter, I will always be ready to cooperate with the military
in restoring security and order in Maluku," Soenarko said.
Under the new security arrangement, the operation is being led
by a two-star military general and the deputy will be a police
officer with a rank of brigadier general.
The arrangement has raised many eyebrows since the law says
that in terms of domestic disputes, police are put on the front
security line, and not the military.
Maluku has been torn apart by over three years of sectarian
conflicts which have killed at least 6,000 people and forced some
500,000 out from their homes.
