Indonesian police claim to have
arrested the commander of the radical Islamic militia Laskar
Jihad, Jaffar Umar Thalib.
Thalib has been linked to the massacre of 13 Christian villagers
near the city of Ambon, on the island of the same name, on April
28.
Police said he was arrested at Surabaya airport earlier today.
Thalib has been accused of provoking the massacre by telling a
rally of Muslims in religiously-divided Ambon to wage war on
Christian separatists, two days before the deadly pre-dawn attack.
He was arrested after flying from Ambon, the capital of Maluku
province, via the South Sulawesi capital Makassar.
