2002-05-31

Indonesia's Vice President, Hamzah Haz, has defended his meeting with a Muslim cleric who has been linked by Singapore to regional terrorism, saying they talked about Islam's peaceful message.

The Vice President, who was speaking about his meeting with Abu Bakar Ba'asyir, also declared that there was no such thing as an international terrorist network in the country.

The Indonesian Vice President met him during a visit to a Muslim boarding school founded by the cleric near Solo in Central Java.
