Maciek woke up very pleased.
- Finally! he thought and ran to his parents' bedroom. - Get up! You have to dress up the Christmas tree!
What started at home was like riding a carousel. Everyone was in a hurry. Dad primarily took care of the Christmas tree. Mom and grandmother, who had come to visit them today, worked in the kitchen. Little Anula was tangled under her feet, and Maciek tried to help everyone. - When will the gifts be? - bored in the meantime. - Look out the window. When you see the first star, we'll start Christmas Eve - mom tried to find the boy something to do. The house was slowly filling up with Christmas scents.
The smell of spruce reigned in the room. The Christmas tree was beautiful. There were chains and toys on it that Maciek made with his mother. And at the very top of the tree, my dad hung a golden star. The boy was fascinated and watched her intently. "Oh, I need to see if there's a star in the sky," he remembered. He looked out the window and saw what he had been waiting for so long. A tiny star was clearly shining outside the window.
- Is!!! - Maciek shouted. Everyone dressed in a festive manner sat down at the table, in fact almost everyone. Maciek was sitting by the Christmas tree. - Mom, there are some packages in there - the boy couldn't take his eyes off the colorful packages. He didn't even notice when they were under the Christmas tree. "We see," Dad said cheerfully. - But now come to the table. I have something important to read about Christmas. Maciek reluctantly sat down on the chair. Dad picked up the Bible. and read an excerpt from it. What? Maciek had no idea. He thought about gifts all the time. Then everyone shared the wafer and made good wishes. And then he had to eat borscht and dumplings. Eventually, Dad allowed him to unpack the colorful packages.
- See what I got - Maciek raged. - Pilot car! Cool! Apart from the car, the boy got a book, blocks and a little angel. But the other gifts were of no interest to him. - At night, mom and I will go to church. Grandma will stay with you - said dad at the end of dinner, but Maciek did not listen to him. How could he listen? He was only interested in a new car. He only played with him for the rest of the evening. He even took him to bed.

In the middle of the night, Maciek woke up unexpectedly. He had a dream, but he didn't know what. He took the car under his arm and headed for his parents' bedroom. He jumped into bed to cuddle with my mother, but my mother was not in bed. Not dad. Frightened, he ran to the living room, but there was no one there either. Not in the kitchen! Granny did sleep in Anula's room, but Maciek forgot about it. He also forgot what Dad said at dinner; that they will go to church at night. Maciek sat down under the Christmas tree. He was sad and he was about to cry when - Don't cry - said the little angel.
- Oh, and how did you get here? the surprised boy asked. - How come from? You got me as a gift - the angel was dissatisfied. It is hardly surprising. Nobody likes to go unnoticed.
- Where are my parents? - Maciek tried to change the subject. He was foolish for not recognizing the little angel. - Get dressed quickly and I'll take you to them.
The boy put on his clothes in a hurry, then opened the door and ran into the cage. He wanted to find an elevator button, but there was no wall. Besides, it was very cold. And (that was probably the worst) he felt his legs sink into the snow.
- What is? Maciek exclaimed upset. - Where's that angel? But the angel was gone.
The boy saw a tiny light in the distance. Courageously he ran ahead. It was not easy. His legs were sunken in the snow. He ran, he ran, and the light was getting clearer. When Maciek was close to him, he recognized that it was a star shining.
- It is exactly the same as on our Christmas tree - he rejoiced. Some people appeared next to him. - Have you seen an angel too? - asked Maciek, a strangely dressed boy. - Yes. I'm looking for him right now. - What are you looking for? He is not the most important - said the stranger walking away.
Maciek quickly followed him. The star was shining brightly and its tail clearly pointed to a wooden shed. The shed door was open. Maciek squeezed through the flock of sheep. There were some people and animals inside. Everyone was looking at the little child who was sleeping peacefully in the manger.
"Come here," said the gentleman who was sitting closest to the child softly. - This is Jesus. He was born today.
Maciek looked carefully at the little boy. "Awful little," he thought.
St. Józef (because it was he who accosted the boy) smiled. - He's small so far. But it will grow. You will know yet that He is your best friend. - Dad said something that it is Christmas - Maciek wondered quietly. "Birth - birth," he muttered tiredly. The young lady who sat on the other side of the manger looked at Maciek tenderly. It was Mary, mother of Jesus. She winked cheerfully at the boy's mom, who was just approaching her son.
- Mom - Maciek whispered. - I already know what is most important this Christmas.
Do you know?
