2005 Titans

   3/31/05 - Mt. Michael
We traveled tonight to Mt. Michael in Elkhorn Nebraska tonight for our season opener.  Over all we had a great effort for our first game of the season.  You could tell it was our first game.  After 30 minutes or so we settled down and started to play.  I was very pleased with our effort, just not the outcome.  Riley Landolt had 8 saves that included 2 one on ones that were huge.  My hat is off to Dan Fischer.  He played hard and more then anything played hurt.  Josh Grovesnor and Josh Probst teamed up to run the middle and Dan Gulden in the second half began to win the 50/50 ball.  Defensively we played well with a new defense back there.  Seth Jackson controlled and ran the show with Korey Lane, and Cory Jasek at his side.   We played well enough to win.  We had our opportunities, we just need to relax and put the ball away.  I might say that we showed signs of tiring in the second half.  When you tire, you stop marking up.  The only goal in the game came off of a rocket shot from about the 18 that came off of a rebound and we weren't there to cover.  They scored with 10:32 left in the game.  Our next contest won't be any easier, we will take on Glenwood at home on April 11th.  This is always another tough game.  We will focus on one game at a time.

On the JV side we have to say the same thing, we like the way we played and our effort, just don't like the outcome.  Soccer is a very unforgiving game.  You can dominate the whole game, but give up one goal, and don't score any of your own, you are done.  We tend to only remember the lose, vs, dwell on the effort.  Well I want to dwell on the effort because we did give all we had.  We played 30 in the JV game.  When you focus on getting all of them in the game, your focus is not on strategy.  Our goal tonight was to see what everyone looked like in a game condition and give them all an opportunity to show what they had.  Kyle Zaloudek played sweeper for us tonight and keep things under control back there.  Brett Epperson looked good in the middle.  Like the Varsity you could tell it was our first game of the season.  As the weeks go by we will develop everyone and we will win some ball games.  We gave up the only goal here at 4:32 left in the second half.
