4/01/04 - Mt. Michael - Unbelievable Unbelievable is the only word
to say. What a game, what a night, what a finish. The evening
starts out with perfect weather but turns cold very fast as the sun sets.
Mt. Michael comes to town with an 0-3 record but that didn't mean anything
to them, they came to play. We start looking like it was our first
game of the season. We looked flat, nervous and afraid to talk. Suddenly
we started talking, moving the ball and 11 minutes into the game Josh Probst
sends a perfect ball across the front and Pablo Navarrete is there waiting.
Were up 1-0. From there is turns into a battle, we stop talking
again and it's time for the half. We have a little talk about communication,
moving the ball around and no unnecessary mistakes. So much for half
time talks, about 30 seconds into the second half we have a mental breakdown
in the back and it becomes 1-1 just that quick. From there nothing
happens. We have several opportunities but can't finish. Regulation
time ends at 1-1 and off to overtime. After two 10 minute overtime
periods it is still tied. We go to shoot out. We got Luke Thompson
in goal for his first goalie start in high school, and he steps up. Joel
Michaelson for Mt. Michael shoots first and puts it away. Luke after
being scored on steps up to take our first shot. He shows great composure,
cooler then the other side of the pillow, steps up and puts it away. Back
to tied. The next Mt. Michael shot goes high. Dan Gulden goes
right, straight in the back of the net, were up 1. Luke Thompson steps
up and stops the next shot by Mt. Michael. Josh Probst for the Titans,
puts it away and we are now up two. It's now up to you Luke, a chance
to end it. Mt Michael shoots, Unbelievable, Luke makes his second save
and it's all over. Great game for Luke after only two days of keeper
practice. I want to also recognize the outstanding play of Dan Gulden
for winning all most every 50/50 ball, Zach Paulson for making their right
forward nonexistent. Ben Edwards, Josh Probst, and Evan Summy also
played very well. I do feel we dominated the possession of the play
and maintained control. However control and possession doesn't mean
any thing if you don't score. When we communicate, we move the ball
and look good. When we don't communicate, we beat ourselves. We
now have time to work on some things. We won't play now until the 13th
of April at Glenwood. For the JV, you gotta say looking
good. We got every one in, it was a fun game to watch, and fun to be
a part of. It was a good season opener for everyone. We talked
well, moved the ball, and controlled the play. John Kocourek scores
two early. Eric Hayes scores his first goal off a great cross from
the corner by Jeff Walters. The other goal was scored by Evan Summy.
Evan also had an assist. John Kocourek and Dan Fischer played
well and took control on the field. Defensively Korey Lane did a super
job running the show and marking every one up. Korey worked well in
the back with Chris Navarrete and James Duysen at his sides. We still
have some things that we need to work on, first touch, too many touches,
and better passes. Over all it was a good game. 4-0 is a good
start and makes it fun to play. |
