2007 Titans
4/26/07 - KuemperThe Conference Championship goal came one step closer tonight as we played Kuemper at our house and won 2-0. We are now 3-0 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference. We stepped up tonight and played a great game and looked like we know we can, even though we only scored two goals. We played great ball control through out the game and managed to put several passes together a number of times. The first goal came off of a nice series of passes that played the ball out side to Nate Jones, Nate plays the ball inside to Adam Larkin and he scores just 14 minutes into the first half. We go into the half up 1-0 and actually feel pretty good. We are actually talking tonight, so we ask them to keep up the communication and continue to look to the corners and play the easy ball. We have the ball to start the second half. We come out, put about 6 passes together, look great, and it finishes with Evan Summy playing the ball into Adam Larkin and Adam puts in his second goal of the night and we go up 2-0 just 1 minute into the 2nd half. From there we have several opportunities and continue to control the game but can't finish on another goal. It was nice to watch tonight and it looked like they actually clicked tonight. Defensively we were solid tonight with Cory Jasek running the show back there with Brandon Duffy, Ryan Cook, and Brett Epperson. Evan Summy and Logan Stichler really stepped up tonight and played a great game. Nate Jones and Nate Dreager played solid on the outside and had a number of great runs up the side sending in several crosses that probably should have resulted in goals. Riley Landolt logs his first shut out of the season, and Zane Brugenhemke came in to get the save. Our next game will now be Tuesday as we make up the rainout game with Creston. We will travel to Creston for a 7pm Conference game. We will play after the girl game. Please take note that the Varsity tournament at Urbandale this weekend has been canceled due to flooded fields. The JV game was something different. How do you we won but for some reason the scoreboard says we lost. We played a good game tonight, a tough game tonight, and well enough that we should have won the game. The probably is we managed to move the ball around, control the play, but we just couldn't finish one. We had problems tonight with first touch on the top. When we had the opportunities to score or to goal to the goal, we weren't able to take the ball with us. We need to continue to practice on first touch. But when you consider tonight was our first JV match in 9 days, they didn't play too bad. We did manage to get everyone into the game and everyone did get some time on the field by the end of the game. Next week we will be full strength on both JV and Varsity and we look forward to them all coming back. |
