2006 Titans

   4/27/06 - Kuemper
Well we go to 5-1 but it wasn't pretty.  It took a while to get started but we finally got firing on all cylinders in the second half.  We dominated the game as Riley Landolt logs another shut out with three saves,  Zane Brugenhemke got in as well to get the save.  It took 23 minutes into the game before we finally slowed it down enough to finally put it together.  The combinations came together and Cory Jasek plays the perfect ball up to Pablo Navarrete who puts it away.  1-0 at the half.  We did a little yelling at the half.  Slow it down, pass it around, make them run, tire them out then take it to them.  Nineteen minutes into the second half Tommy Vonmende is the right spot as the ball is coming out.  Tommy is there to trap the ball and goes in one on one with the keeper and puts the ball in the back of the net.  Actually Tommy was off the field before that because he went down and while he was on the ground he got stepped on on the face.  The corner kicks were open all night as they were giving us the area in front of the goal all night.  We finally put one away when Pablo plays the corner kick in and Evan Summy is there to finish it off just 6 minutes after the last goal.  The final goal came 5 minutes later when Tommy is there again to trap the ball coming out.  Same thing again, one on one and he wins.  We decided we are going to step on Tommy before every game if it works.  Defensively we played well again tonight as Alex O'Neill, Brandon Duffy, Alex Seliak, Chris Navarrete, and Evan Summy put it together to shut everything down that was in their area.  Adam Larkin had on of his better games playing the outside spot in the middle tonight, he had several great runs and had some super crosses to the middle of the goal for scoring opportunities.  We won but we still need to work on slowing the ball down and establishing our style of play.  At times we got caught up in their game and playing boom ball.  It was a win and we move on to the weekend.  Weather permitting we will be in Urbandale Saturday for their tournament.  They should be some good games and we are looking forward to playing.  Join us if you can.  Our first game will be at 9am.

JV played well considering was they had to do.  We got to Carroll a little late and they had less then 15 minutes to warm up.  No warm up means slow start and confusion.  We played 2 20 minute halves because they didn't have enough players available to play a full game.  The first twenty minutes went by and we looked like all we did was survive.  They pressured and had a couple of scoring opportunities but we managed to hang in there and shut them down.  At the half I told them they should now be awake so let's relax, pass it around and put something together.  We looked much better in the second twenty.  We talked, we moved it around, and really looked like we wanted to play.  We just couldn't finish and we go end it with a 0-0 tie.  If we could have had 40 more minutes I do believe that we would have put this one away.  It was nice to play JV again as they haven't played now for awhile.  A full game would have been nice but at least we got what we did.
