4/30/09 - Kuemper - A little windy tonight but low 60's and partly cloudy as we welcome the Knights of Kuemper to our field for our second home game of the season. We start off early just over 2 minutes into the game Tyler Meleney takes the throw in and puts it back post. Nate Jones is there to put it away, 1-0. Less then 30 seconds later Nate dribbles down and puts in number two for the night. Ten minutes later Nate Dreager sends it in from about 35 yards out and catchs the keeper out of the net and it sails over the top of him. All things end for a bit as we breakdown a bit and few bad passes turn into a Kuemper goal with 7 minuets left in the first half, 3-1 now. We manage to get to the half and time to access what is going on. We are up at the half but not because we out played them. We were just going through the moves, stopped talking and playing like we already won. It was a very long second half as it was a very defensive battle and no one would let anything get by. Finally with one minute left in the game Tyler Butler sends the ball across the goal and Todd Whisinnand is right there to head it into the goal. It was a great play and came at a good time as the clock ran out and we pick up another Hawkeye 10 conference win and go 3-1 in the conference. Join us Saturday as we travel to Harlan for another Hawkeye 10 game. The bus leaves the school at 11:30am and the game will start at 1pm, JV first. Please plan to join us on Saturday. JV game
turned out to be another battle. We only have 11
eligible/available players and they all played their hearts out.
But Kuemper on the other hand is also short and started over
half of the varsity squad. It turned out to be just as
physical as the varsity game. We have an early opportunity
to score early with Todd Whisinnand alone with the keeper and he
misses the goal. From there it gets tough as Kuemper
scores two quick goals. Because of the numbers we only
play one 40 minute half to make sure we at least get everyone
some playing time. Six minutes left in the game Kuemper
scores their third game, and then number 4 with 1 minute left.
We just run out of gas and no subs. We gave everything we
had to give, played hard, and we can't ask for more.
