2004 Titans

   5/3/04 - Glenwood

Chalk up tonight as another lesson learned.  We picked up our play the second half tonight but not enough to take control.  Glenwood come to town and we were looking to get back at them for the loss at their house.  The first half they have the wind, they win the 50/50 and they control the play.  They out muscled us the whole first half.  It was a very physical hard fought game.  Just before the half, our keeper, Riley Landolt comes out of the goal to slide in on a loose ball.  Glenwood slides in and Riley gets hit to the head.  The trainer checks him, and we have to pull him from the game.  Joel Edwards now steps in to cover in the goal.  Considering he has no practice in goal, he played well.  We were down at the half 1-0.  We are still in the game but we need to decide if we want to win or just get through the game and go home.  About 10 minutes into the second half they are called for a foul in the box and we are setting up for a PK.  Josh Grovesnor steps up to take the shot and the keeper moves right and stops the shot.  They come out with the rebound and marched the full length of the field and put it into the net to take a 2-0 lead.  We continued to fight, we just didn't have enough all around to match up.  Seth Jackson, Adam Cooney, and Korey Lane were solid in the back.  Someone else who had a very good game and gave what he could was Ben Edwards.  Ben is improving with each game this year.  Thursday we will travel to Denison, it will be just as physical and more then tonight.  We will focus tomorrow at practice on winning the 50/50 ball.

JV got a little lesson as well tonight.  The JV game was a perfect set up for what was about to happen in the Varsity game.  We always tell the kids, if you watch the JV game, you will have an idea what is about to happen to you in the Varsity game.  We actually controlled the ball and the play in the middle tonight but then when we got close we would make a bad pass or dribble too many times and wind up losing the ball.  We had the shots and the opportunities again tonight, just nothing would go in.  Defensively James Duysen, Chris Navarrete, and Cory Jasek played well again tonight.  Adam Larkin, Korey Mabbit, Joel Edwards, and Brad Stageman played well in the middle as well.
