2006 Titans

  5/04/06 Denison
Well I guess I hate to say I told you so, but man what a game.  I never would have believed that 1 goal would have won this game.  We traveled to Denison tonight for once again a royal battle.  Like usual it was another hard fought, physical game and we managed to come out on top again.  We start off the game with 6 quick touches, possession, and talking and Cory Jasek takes the last touch and the ball is in the net.  But wait a minute, the AR has his flag up, he is calling off sides.  That is what we have been wanting to do all season, is start out strong.  We came back and offensively continued to put a couple of series together and at the half way mark in the first half we put it together on a perfectly executed corner play.  Pablo calls the play sends the ball in low and near post.  Dan Fisher flys in near post and gets there before the Denison keeper.  In the net it goes and we are up 1-0.  Denison turns up the heat several times and really applies the pressure.  Defensively we had to make some moves tonight because Alex Seliak is out due to injuries.  Chris Navarrete got his first start of the season as sweeper, we moved Alex O'Neil to the outside where he adjusted very well.  With the help of Brandon Duffy, Evan Summy, Adam Larkin, and Brett Epperson we played a solid game in the back.  It was a game to watch if you wanted to see an awesome show by an awesome keeper.  Riley Landolt logs shut out number 5 of the season in 6 wins.  Riley made some great saves tonight, some while he was even on his head.  Riley made a game winning save very late in the game as he started to move the wrong direction at first but was able to adjust and dive the opposite way to the ground making a finger tip save.    We manage to withstand the next 60 minutes of soccer and walk away on top and go to 6-1.  The last time we started out 6-1 was in 2002.  Adam Larkin played his heart out tonight to the point where we had to carry him off the field from cramps.   Basically the last 30 minutes of the game was solid defense and stopping the constant pressure they applied, that will take it's toll on any one.   Cory Jasek and Logan Stichler picked up their level of play tonight and at times managed to control the middle.  We had to work for this one tonight and Monday will be the same way.  Monday Harlan comes to town for our last home game of the season.  It will be parents night at the varsity game approximately at 6pm.  Senior parents plan to make the game please.  GREAT WIN tonight TITANS.

JV showed some real heart and character tonight as we worked hard to get the train back on the right track.  We fell down early as Denison scores the first goal 1 minute 30 seconds into the game.  We miss on several opportunities that could have impacted the games outcome but we are just off by 1 step.  They score their second goal 7 minutes later and we find ourselves down 2-0.  13 minutes later we get our first goal as Nate Jones and Tae You Kim put the combinations together and move forward with the quick pass, finally Tae You feeds Nate and Nate puts it away to go down by 1 at the half.  I ask them at the half to slow down, look around, be quicker with the decision and the pass and we are still in this one.  Well they come out strong again and 4 minutes in the second half they go up 3-1.  13 minutes later again Tae You finds himself alone with the keeper, takes the shot.  It bounces off the keeper and Tae You is still moving forward.  The ball bounces right back to Tae You and he hits again straight line to the back of the net, 3-2, we are back in it.  Well almost, we sleep for 20 seconds and Denison comes right back and we give up a quick one.  It is now 4-2 and we could have just layed down at that point, but we didn't.  Nate Jones and Tae You Kim put it together one more time just 4 minutes later with 18 minutes left in the game on a perfectly executed cross and shot.   This time Nate feeds Tae You and Tae You picks up his second goal of the game, 4-3.  From there we couldn't muster up enough to work up a tie, but I must say that I was overall very pleased with the way we played and the fact that we continued to fight to the last minute.  We played a few players in different positions tonight as we moved people around looking for the right combination.  Thank you for stepping up tonight and great game to Ryan Cook Nate Dreager.  The boys wanted this one bad and they worked for it.  GREAT GAME TITANS.
