2005 Titans

   5/05/05 - Denison
Denison comes to town 7-2 and is looking to mess with us on our own home turf or VP.  We were ready for them to do battle, and a battle it was.  Nice weather, but as usual the winds are blowing.  We get the wind in the first half and are able to mount several attacks but each time we come away empty.  Then about ten minutes into the game Adam Larkin crosses a perfect ball into the middle and Josh Probst was there to finish it off and put it away.  It was a perfectly executed play that managed to be just enough.  Everyone really stepped it up in the second half and was not about to let this one slip away.  Defensively I can't enough about how they played, Seth Jackson, Dan Gulden, Korey Lane, and Joel Edwards were on a mission.  It was nice to see some seniors step up tonight and take on some responsibility for what was about to happen.  Josh Probst picked up another goal for the season, and Josh Grosvenor stepped up and made it known that the middle of the field belonged to him.  Riley Landolt logs his second shut out for the season and put on quite a show the second half.  The last ten minutes of the game Denison came at us hard and Riley was making saves from everywhere.  He played very well and you could tell that he was determined.  It was 1-0 and it was a great 1-0.  Tonight was a big win for us an a great notch in our belt.  Varsity will now be off until Monday when we will travel to Harlan.

JV works to get back on the right track tonight and manages to finish with another tie against Denison.  They score first and now we need to do a little sole searching.  The second half we get the wind at our back but even with that it is not looking good.  Denison is playing solid defense and continues to attack.  Finally James Duysen is able to break through and goes one on one with the keeper.  He ties it up and that is the way we finish.  Another great effort on defense tonight by Kyle Zaloudek, Chris Navarrete, Kyle Herran, Cory Jasek, and Alex Seliak.  Kyle played his heart out tonight as we moved him from stopper to sweeper in the second half.  JV needs to continue to work on a couple of different things as they improve their game.  They start well each game with the quick touch, patience, and communication.  As we get tired all three slowly begin to disappear.  They are still playing well and they are fun to watch.  Friday JV will travel to play TriCenter in Neola, it will be a JV only match that will be a girl/boy combination.  The girls will play at 4:30, followed by the boys.
